Open DLL files in your browser
Code Windows programs share, in the same format as an EXE. Open one right here to see what it is, its version and who signed it. Nothing leaves your device.
Or drop it anywhere on this page
What you'll see
Your app opens like a folder, its files listed on the left, with a page beside them on what it is, who signed it and what it asks for.
- Its signature • Checked inside your browser
- SHA-256 • Compare it or look it up on VirusTotal
- Heads-ups • What it asks for and what runs
- Its files • Manifests open as text
About DLL
A DLL is a Portable Executable that programs load rather than run: it exports functions for them to call, and imports the ones it needs from other DLLs. OCX controls, CPL Control Panel items and SYS drivers are DLLs too, and .NET assemblies are DLLs that hold managed code.
Libraries are signed with Authenticode like programs: a signature over the file's hash, a certificate a CA issued to the publisher, and a timestamp. Windows only loads drivers signed in a way Microsoft trusts, and many system DLLs are signed in a catalog file instead, so the DLL itself carries no signature.
Filepeek checks the signature, the certificate chain and the timestamp inside your browser, and Check now asks the CA whether it revoked the certificate. It reads the version details, lists what the library exports and imports, and a .NET assembly's name, version, runtime and references.

Questions
How do I see what a DLL is?
Drop it on this page or choose Peek a DLL. A page shows its name, version, publisher and what it runs on, with the functions it exports and the DLLs it needs.
How do I check a DLL's digital signature?
Filepeek checks its Authenticode signature, the certificate chain and its timestamp. A Windows DLL with no signature of its own is often signed in a catalog file Windows keeps, which isn't in the DLL.
How do I look up a DLL on VirusTotal?
Filepeek works out its SHA-256 inside your browser. Look up on VirusTotal opens VirusTotal's page for that hash, and only the hash goes, never the file. Compare checks it against a SHA-256, SHA-1 or MD5 you paste.
Does opening a DLL load it?
No. Filepeek only reads it: nothing in it runs, nothing is loaded and it never leaves your device.
Can I get files out of a DLL?
Yes. Pick any file on the left to open it. Its resources, like its manifest, open at once. Export saves them all as a ZIP, or, in Chrome and Edge on a computer, extracts them into a folder.
