About MBOX
Unix mail programs of the 1970s kept each mailbox as one file: every email one after another, each starting on a line that begins with From and a space. It was never one standard, but RFC 4155 described it in 2005, and it's still how mail moves between apps.
Google Takeout exports Gmail as MBOX, Thunderbird keeps its folders in it, and Apple Mail exports a mailbox as a folder with an mbox file inside. Years of mail run to gigabytes, far too big for a text editor.
Filepeek reads the mailbox in pieces, so one of any size opens, and lists its emails newest first. Filter finds an email by its sender, recipients or subject, the one you pick shows beside the list with its attachments, and Save the list as CSV writes who sent what and when.
