About MOBILECONFIG
Companies, schools, Wi-Fi hotspots and VPN services hand out configuration profiles to set up Apple devices in one step. Apple Configurator, iMazing Profile Editor and device management servers like Jamf and Intune make them, and a profile downloaded in Safari waits in Settings until you install it.
A profile is a property list with a payload for each thing it sets: a Wi-Fi network and its password, a VPN, a mail account, certificates to trust, restrictions, or enrollment in device management, which lets a server manage the device. Most are signed, so the device can show who made them.
Filepeek lists every payload and what it sets, with heads-ups first for those that hand over control: device management, a root certificate that can read encrypted traffic, a proxy or DNS that sees what you browse. It checks the signature, and passwords never show.

Questions
Is it safe to install this profile?
It's as safe as whoever made it. A profile can enroll your device in management, trust a root certificate or send your traffic through a proxy, so look at what it does first. Filepeek puts those first, with who signed it.
Why does my iPhone say the profile is Not Verified?
iOS shows Not Verified when a profile isn't signed, or when its signature doesn't lead to a certificate the device trusts. Filepeek shows who signed it and whether the signature holds.
Where do I install a downloaded profile?
On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings and tap Profile Downloaded near the top, or go to General, then VPN & Device Management.
How do I remove a profile?
On an iPhone or iPad, go to Settings, General, VPN & Device Management, tap the profile, then Remove Profile. One made to stay asks for a password, or only the server that manages the device can remove it.
Can I see the Wi-Fi password in a profile?
No. Filepeek hides passwords and keys and only says one is included, and a profile that holds one has no Text view.
