About W64

Sonic Foundry, the maker of Sound Forge and Vegas, made Wave64 in the early 2000s to get past the 4 GB limit of WAV. Sony, then Magix, kept it in their apps.

A W64 is a WAV with 64-bit sizes and GUIDs in place of WAV's four letter chunk names. The sound inside is the same PCM.

Filepeek reads it in slices, so a long recording plays without loading it whole, with its waveform and details, and Export saves a WAV or an MP3.

Questions

How do I play a W64 file?

Drop it on this page or press Peek a W64. It plays at once with its waveform.

Can I turn it into a WAV?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as WAV. A recording past 4 GB is better saved as MP3.

Is W64 the same as RF64?

No. Both carry WAV's sound past 4 GB, but in different files. Both play here.

Is my recording uploaded?

No. The recording opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
