About WMF

The Windows Metafile came with Windows 3.0 in 1990. It records a picture as the drawing calls Windows made, lines, shapes, text and bitmaps, so it can be played back at any size. Office's clip art, old documents and many Windows apps used it.

Most WMF files start with a placeable header that gives the picture its size, as clip art does. WMZ is a WMF compressed with gzip. Outside Windows, few apps show them.

Filepeek reads the metafile itself, draws it on white, and shows it like any image: zoom in and save it as PNG or JPEG.
