Open Gerber files in your browser

The files a circuit board is made from, a Gerber for each layer, sent to every board maker. Open them right here, the whole board from both sides, with no CAD or CAM app. Nothing leaves your device.

Or drop it anywhere on this page

What you'll see

Drop a board's Gerber and drill files together and it opens as it's made, from the top and from below. A file on its own shows its layer.

About Gerber

Gerber Systems made the format in 1980 to drive its photoplotters, which drew each layer of a circuit board onto film. Ucamco keeps it now, as RS-274X with the shapes of the pads defined in the file, and its X2 attributes say what each file is for, like top copper or solder mask.

A board is a set of files: copper for each layer, solder mask, silkscreen and paste for each side, the outline, and drill files for the holes. KiCad, Altium, Eagle and EasyEDA name them each their own way, like .gtl for the top copper or F_Cu.gbr, and zip them up for the maker.

Filepeek reads them in your browser. Drop a board's files together and it shows as it's made, from the top and, mirrored beside it, from below: green mask over the core, gold copper where the mask is open, white silkscreen and the holes through it. A file on its own shows its layer. Each file is a layer to hide or show alone, Measure gives distances in millimeters, and Export saves the view as PNG or SVG.

Questions

Which Gerber files does my board need?

For a two-layer board: top and bottom copper, top and bottom solder mask, top and bottom silkscreen, the outline and the drill files. Drop them all together and the Layers panel names each file's layer, so a missing one is plain to see.

Why are some of my files hidden?

Paste, inner copper and any file Filepeek can't place start hidden, so the board looks as it's made. Click a layer's eye in the Layers panel to show it.

Why does my old Gerber open as text?

Files from before RS-274X keep the shapes of their pads in a separate list from the CAD app, with nothing in the file saying it's a Gerber. CAD apps have written RS-274X for over twenty years, so exporting the board again gives files that open here.

Can I check my board before ordering it?

Yes. See both sides as the maker will build them, show each layer alone, and Measure between two points in millimeters. Show details gives the board's size, its copper layers, its holes and its smallest hole.
