About MDS

Alcohol 120% and its free sibling, Alcohol 52%, saved discs as a pair: an .mdf with the sectors and a small .mds that describes them. Daemon Tools mounted the same pair, so many CD and DVD backups of the 2000s are in it.

The .mds lists the disc's sessions and tracks, each with its mode, where it starts and its sector size, raw 2,352 bytes for a CD or 2,048 for a DVD. An .mdf of a DVD is a plain ISO underneath, and a CD's holds raw sectors with music as CD sound.

Filepeek reads the .mds and the sectors itself. A data track opens as a folder, its files read straight from the image, and audio tracks play as songs in the audio player. Save as ISO turns the data track into an ISO, and each song saves as MP3 or WAV.

Questions

How do I open an MDS/MDF?

Pick or drop the .mds with its .mdf together. A data track opens as a folder, audio tracks as songs, with nothing to mount or install.

Can I open the .mdf alone?

Yes. A DVD's opens like an ISO, and a CD's data track opens by its sectors, though its music tracks need the .mds for their bounds.

Can I turn it into an ISO?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as ISO, and the data track is saved as a plain ISO, which any computer opens.

Can I play its music?

Yes. Each audio track plays in the audio player, and Export saves each one as MP3 or WAV, or every track in one ZIP.

Is my image uploaded?

No. It opens inside your browser and never leaves your device, however big it is.
