About PST

A PST is where Outlook on Windows keeps mail it doesn't leave on a server: every folder, email, contact, appointment and task in one file, organized as a database of its own, which Microsoft documents as MS-PST. Outlook 2003 moved it to Unicode and lifted its 2 GB limit, and files of tens of gigabytes are common.

People get PSTs when Outlook archives old mail, when a mailbox is exported to move to a new computer or to leave a job, and in legal discovery. Opening one has always meant having Outlook on Windows.

Filepeek reads the file in pieces, so one of any size opens, and lists its folders as Outlook had them. Each email opens in the mail reader with its attachments, contacts open as cards, and appointments and tasks open in the agenda with their repeats. Save as ZIP or Extract all writes them out as EML, vCard and iCalendar files any app opens.

Questions

How do I open a PST file without Outlook?

Drop it on this page or choose Peek a PST. Its folders open in the file list, and each email opens when you pick it, on a Mac or a phone too.

Can it open a big PST?

Yes. The file is read in pieces, only what's needed, so a PST of tens of gigabytes opens too.

Can I get the emails out?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as ZIP or Extract all. Every email is written as an EML file any mail app opens, contacts as vCards and appointments as iCalendar files.

What about contacts and the calendar?

Contacts and groups open as cards, and appointments and tasks open in the agenda, with their repeats in words.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
