About QOI
Dominic Szablewski made QOI in 2021 to show that a lossless image format could be simple and fast, and its one page spec spread at once through games, engines and image tools, ImageMagick, GIMP and FFmpeg among them.
A QOI is a 14 byte header, then each pixel as a short code: a run of the color before, one of the 64 colors seen last, a small step from the pixel before, or the color itself, in RGB or RGBA. Every pixel comes back exactly.
No browser shows QOI. Filepeek decodes it itself, with its transparency over a checkerboard, and Export saves it as PNG or JPEG.
