About SER

Heiko Wilkens made SER for LuCam Recorder, and it became the video of planetary imaging. SharpCap, FireCapture and ASICap record the Moon, the Sun and the planets in it, and AutoStakkert! and RegiStax stack its sharpest frames into one picture.

A SER is simple: a header with the camera, the telescope, the observer and the frame size, then each frame's pixels as they came off the sensor, 8 or 16 bits, gray, Bayer or color, and at its end the time each frame was taken.

Filepeek plays it on the Player pill at the speed it was recorded, reading a frame at a time, so a file of many GB plays. A color camera's Bayer frames are turned into color and balanced from the first frame, Show details gives the camera, the telescope, the frames and the frame rate, and Export saves the frame on show as PNG or JPEG.

Questions

How do I play a SER file?

Drop it on this page or press Peek an SER. It plays at the speed it was recorded, with nothing to install.

Why is my SER video gray?

A color camera's frames show in color when the file names its Bayer pattern. A mono camera's frames, or a color one's whose capture app didn't name it, show gray.

Can I save a single frame?

Yes. Pause on the frame you want, choose Export, then Save frame as PNG or JPEG.

Does it stack my frames?

No. Filepeek plays them as they are. Stacking apps like AutoStakkert! and RegiStax pick the sharpest frames and combine them into one picture.

Why won't my .ser file open?

Java programs save objects as .ser too, and those aren't videos. Only a planetary camera's SER plays here.
