About TORRENT

Bram Cohen released BitTorrent in 2001. A .torrent file describes a download: the names and sizes of its files, how they're cut into pieces with a hash for each, and the trackers that introduce peers. Linux distributions, the Internet Archive and game updates hand them out.

The file holds none of the download itself. Its info hash, worked out from the part that lists the files, is the torrent's identity, the same one a magnet link carries.

Filepeek lists the files in their folders with their sizes, then the total, the pieces, the info hash, the version, the trackers and web seeds, when it was made and with what. It never connects to a tracker or a peer, and makes no magnet link.

Questions

Can I see what a torrent downloads before opening it?

Yes. Drop it on this page or press Peek a TORRENT. Every file shows with its size, so you know what you'd get before a torrent app touches it.

Does Filepeek download anything?

No. It only reads the .torrent file. It never contacts a tracker or a peer, so nothing is downloaded or shared.

What is the info hash?

The torrent's identity, worked out from its list of files. Two torrents with the same info hash download the same thing, whatever their names.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
