About XDELTA
Joshua MacDonald's xdelta makes patches between any two files in VCDIFF, a standard format (RFC 3284). Fan translations of PlayStation, PSP, GameCube and Wii games use it, since it handles disc images of gigabytes, and Delta Patcher and xdelta UI apply it on Windows.
An xdelta patch is a series of windows, each building a part of the new file from copies of the old one, of what's already built and new bytes, often with an Adler-32 checksum of the part. xdelta's patches also name the files they were made from.
Filepeek shows the files the patch was made from and its size. Apply to a ROM builds the patched copy from the file you pick, checking each part as it goes, so the wrong file fails rather than saving a broken copy. A patch packed with a compressor says so.

Questions
How do I apply an xdelta patch?
Drop the patch on this page or choose Peek an XDELTA, then press Apply to a ROM and pick the file it was made for. Filepeek saves a patched copy, and your file stays as it is.
What does 'target window checksum mismatch' mean?
The file you picked isn't the one the patch was made from. xdelta's patches name that file, and Filepeek shows the name, which often gives the dump or the version away.
Why can't Filepeek apply my patch?
Some patches are packed with xdelta's own compressors, LZMA or DJW, which Filepeek doesn't unpack, and it says so. xdelta3 and Delta Patcher apply those.
How big a file can it patch?
Files up to 512 MB, which covers cartridge ROMs and CD images. DVD images need xdelta3 or Delta Patcher on a computer.
