About XML
XML marks up text with tags of any name: an element starts with <book>, ends with </book>, holds text and other elements, and carries attributes like id="bk101" in its start tag. The W3C published it in 1998 as a simpler SGML, and it holds SVG pictures, Office documents, Android layouts, Maven and .NET projects, and the data banks, governments and businesses pass between them.
Namespaces keep names from different vocabularies apart, like dc:title, and CDATA sections hold text with characters that would otherwise be markup. A file must be well formed, every element closed in order, or XML readers stop at the first mistake.
Filepeek reads the file in pieces and shows its elements as a tree, each with its attributes and short text on its row, so an XML of several gigabytes opens at once. Repeated elements open as a table, Copy path gives any element's XPath, and a mistake is marked where it is and named in plain words.

Questions
How do I open an XML file?
Drop it on this page or choose Peek an XML. It opens at once as a tree of elements, its first levels unfolded, with nothing to install.
Can it open huge XML files?
Yes. Filepeek reads the file in pieces and builds only the part of the tree on your screen, so an XML of several gigabytes opens at once.
Can I see XML as a table?
Yes. Choose Table above the tree, or Show as table in an element's menu. Each repeated element is a row, and its attributes and child elements are columns.
How do I get an element's XPath?
Select the element and choose Copy path at the bottom. Its menu also gives the path with the position of every step.
Does an Italian e-invoice open?
Yes. A FatturaPA invoice opens laid out as an invoice, with the seller and the buyer, each line, VAT, the total and how to pay, and Tree shows its XML. A signed one, .xml.p7m, opens the same way.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
