About 3GP

3GPP, the group behind mobile networks, released 3GP in 2003 for video on 3G phones. Phones from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung and others recorded clips and video messages in it, and 3G2 is its twin for CDMA phones.

A 3GP is built like an MP4. Most hold small H.263 or MPEG-4 Part 2 video with AMR sound, made for phone screens, and later ones H.264 with AAC.

Chrome, Edge and Firefox can't play most 3GP files, since they can't decode H.263, MPEG-4 Part 2 or AMR. Filepeek decodes them with FFmpeg inside your browser, and Export saves an MP4 any device plays.

Questions

How do I play videos from an old phone?

Copy the .3gp files to your computer, then drop them on this page or press Peek a 3GP. They play here with their sound, with nothing to install.

Why is there no sound in other players?

Phone clips usually have AMR sound, which browsers and many players can't decode. Filepeek decodes it inside your browser.

Can I save it as MP4?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as MP4 or MOV, which play on any phone or computer.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The clip plays inside your browser and stays on your device.
