About APKM

An APKM is a ZIP from APKMirror holding an app's base APK and its split APKs for screen sizes, languages and processors, with info.json naming the app and the version. APKMirror's installer app puts the pieces in place, as Android can't install the file by itself.

The APKs inside are the developer's own, signed with their key, so APKMirror's bundle changes nothing in them. Every split has to be signed with the same key as the base, or Android refuses them together.

Filepeek reads the base APK as it reads any APK: its manifest as XML, every permission, the SDKs inside and each signature scheme. It lists the splits and what each is for, and works out the SHA-256 of the whole bundle.

Questions

How do I open an APKM on a computer?

Drop it on this page or choose Peek an APKM. Its APKs are listed like a folder, with a page beside them on the app, its splits and what it asks for. Nothing installs.

Can I check an APKM's signature?

Yes. Filepeek checks the base APK's signature schemes against its files and shows the certificate it was signed with, so you can tell it's signed with the developer's own key.

How do I look up an APKM on VirusTotal?

Filepeek works out its SHA-256 inside your browser. Look up on VirusTotal opens VirusTotal's page for that hash, and only the hash goes, never the file. Compare checks it against a SHA-256, SHA-1 or MD5 you paste.

Does opening an APKM install it?

No. Filepeek only reads it: nothing in it runs, nothing is installed and it never leaves your device.

Can I get files out of an APKM?

Yes. Pick any file on the left to open it. Each APK inside opens as an app of its own. In Chrome and Edge on a computer, Export extracts them all into a folder.
