Open CSV files in your browser

The simplest table there is: rows of values split by commas, which every spreadsheet and database reads and writes. Open one of any size right here, as a table. Nothing leaves your device.

Or drop it anywhere on this page

What you'll see

Your table opens at once, its header pinned to the top and its rows counted in the background.

About CSV

A CSV file is plain text with one row of a table on each line and its values split by commas. The first line usually names the columns. A value with a comma, a quote or a line break inside is wrapped in double quotes, and a quote inside it is doubled. RFC 4180 wrote these rules down in 2005, long after every program had its own take on them.

Spreadsheets in many countries split values with semicolons instead, since the comma is their decimal mark, and other files use tabs or pipes. Excel saves CSV in a Windows code page unless told to use UTF-8, and starts its UTF-8 with a byte order mark to read it back.

Filepeek tells the delimiter, the header and the encoding from the first rows, and lets you pick others next to the file's details. It reads the file in pieces as you scroll and counts its rows in the background, so a CSV of several gigabytes opens at once. Rows whose values don't match the header are counted and marked.

Questions

How do I open a CSV file without Excel?

Drop it on this page or choose Peek a CSV. It opens at once as a table, its header pinned to the top, with nothing to install.

Can it open huge CSV files?

Yes. Filepeek only reads the rows on your screen, so a CSV of several gigabytes and millions of rows opens at once. Its rows are counted in the background, and sorting, filtering and search take in every one of them.

How do I sort or filter the rows?

Click a column's name to sort by it, and again to reverse it. Shift and a click sorts by one more column. A column's menu filters it by its text, a range or a list of its values, and counts its values, with the lowest, the highest and the most common.

Can I save it as Excel, JSON or Parquet?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as Excel, JSON, JSON Lines, Parquet, TSV or CSV with another delimiter, with every row or only the rows you sorted and filtered.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The table opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
