About PARQUET
Twitter and Cloudera made Parquet in 2013 for Hadoop, and it became an Apache project. Spark, pandas, Polars, DuckDB, BigQuery, Snowflake and most other data tools read and write it.
A Parquet file stores each column apart, in row groups, compressed with Snappy, Zstandard, gzip, Brotli or LZ4, so a program reads only the columns it needs. Every column has a type: whole numbers, decimals, dates and timestamps, text, and nested lists and structs. The footer keeps the schema, statistics for each row group, and metadata like a pandas index or a GeoParquet's coordinate system.
No spreadsheet opens Parquet. Filepeek reads it with hyparquet, a row group at a time as you scroll, and lists the schema, the codecs and the metadata in its details. Big whole numbers and decimals keep every digit.

Questions
How do I open a Parquet file without Python?
Drop it on this page or choose Peek a PARQUET. Its rows open as a table, each column with its type, with nothing to install.
Does it show the schema and metadata?
Yes. Show details, next to the file's details, lists every column's type, the row groups, the codecs, the program that wrote the file and its key-value metadata.
Can I turn Parquet into CSV or Excel?
Yes. Choose Export, then Save as CSV, Excel, JSON or JSON Lines, with every row or only the rows you sorted and filtered.
Which Parquet files does it open?
Files compressed with Snappy, Zstandard, gzip, Brotli or LZ4, or not at all, with any of Parquet's encodings. Encrypted Parquet files don't open.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is read inside your browser and never leaves your device.
