About DOC
A DOC is a binary file laid out like a small disk of its own: Word's text in one stream, its formatting in tables that point into it, and pictures, notes and macros beside them. It was Word's format from Word 97 until Word 2007 brought DOCX, and DOT is its template. Microsoft published its specification in 2008.
Countless DOC files are still around, in company archives, government forms and old email. Their macros made the format a favorite of malware, and their pictures are often WMF and EMF drawings that browsers can't show.
Filepeek reads the DOC itself and lays it out as pages, with its tables, pictures, headers, footers, notes, comments and tracked changes, and draws its WMF and EMF pictures. Macros never run, and a DOC locked with a password opens once you type it.

Questions
How do I open a DOC file without Word?
Drop it on this page or choose Peek a DOC. It opens at once as pages fitted to your window.
Is it safe to open a DOC from a stranger?
Filepeek reads the file as data and never runs its macros. Choose Show macros in its details to read their code, and a link only opens after you see where it goes.
Can it open a DOC with a password?
Yes. Type the password when Filepeek asks, and it opens. The password stays on your device, and it's gone once you close the file.
Does it open documents from Word 95 or older?
No. Filepeek reads the DOC of Word 97 and later, which every Word since saves as Word 97-2003 Document.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The document opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
