About DOCX
A DOCX is a ZIP of XML files: the text with its styles, the pictures, the headers and footers, the notes and the comments, each in a part of its own. Microsoft brought it with Word 2007 to replace DOC, and it became a standard as Office Open XML, ECMA-376 and ISO/IEC 29500. DOCM is the same with macros, DOTX and DOTM are templates.
A Word document carries more than it shows: tracked changes nobody accepted, comments, hidden or white text, the author's name and editing time, and macros in a DOCM. That's how a CV or a contract can say more than its sender meant, and why macros in Word files are a classic way in for malware.
Filepeek reads the DOCX itself and lays it out as pages, with its fonts, or free fonts of the same width when your device lacks them, its pictures, tables, charts, equations, notes, headers and footers. Final shows the document as it reads, Markup shows the changes with the comments in balloons beside the pages, and Original shows it before them. Macros never run, and Show details lists what the file hides.

Questions
How do I open a DOCX file without Word?
Drop it on this page or choose Peek a DOCX. It opens at once as pages fitted to your window, with its headings in Contents to jump to.
Can I see the tracked changes and comments?
Yes. Markup shows what was added and deleted, by whom and when, and the comments. Final shows the document with every change accepted, and Original as it was before them.
Can I read it on my phone?
Yes. On a phone the text is reflowed to fit your screen, with no zooming in and out, and Show pages brings back the pages.
Can it open a Word file with a password?
Yes. Type the password when Filepeek asks, and it opens. The password stays on your device, and it's gone once you close the file.
Does it run macros?
Never. Choose Show macros in a DOCM's details to read their code as text, so you can see what they would do.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The document opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
