About EOT

Microsoft made Embedded OpenType for Internet Explorer 4 in 1997, years before other browsers loaded fonts from the web. Only Internet Explorer ever read it, so sites served EOT next to WOFF and TTF for as long as people used it.

An EOT wraps a TrueType or OpenType font in a header with its names and the sites it may be used on, and can scramble it with a simple XOR or pack it with MicroType Express, Monotype's compression.

Filepeek reads the font in your browser, unscrambling it when it's scrambled, and shows every glyph, Type and its licence. Save it as the TTF or OTF inside, or as WOFF2 for the web. A font packed with MicroType Express shows the names its header keeps.

Questions

How do I open an EOT file?

Drop it on this page or choose Peek an EOT. Every glyph shows at once, and Type sets any text in it.

Can I turn an EOT into a TTF?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as TTF, or Save as OTF for CFF outlines. Save as WOFF2 makes a font every browser loads.

Why does it only show its names?

Its font is packed with MicroType Express, which Filepeek doesn't unpack. Its header still names the font, its style and its version, and Info shows them.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The font opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
