About JSONL

JSON Lines puts one JSON value on each line of a text file, usually an object, with nothing between the lines. A program adds a record by writing one more line and reads the file a line at a time, which one big JSON document doesn't allow.

Logs, database exports, BigQuery and Elasticsearch dumps and the datasets language models are trained on are written this way, as .jsonl or .ndjson files that can hold millions of records.

Filepeek reads the file in pieces and lists its lines as records to unfold, search and see as a table with a column for each key, so a file of several gigabytes opens at once. A line that isn't JSON is marked and named in plain words.

Questions

How do I open a JSONL file?

Drop it on this page or choose Peek a JSONL. Its lines open at once as records you can unfold, with nothing to install.

Can it open huge JSON Lines files?

Yes. Filepeek reads the file in pieces, so millions of records open at once while the rest of the file is read in the background.

Can I see the records as a table?

Yes. Choose Table above the records. Each line is a row and each key a column, to sort, filter and save as CSV, Excel or Parquet.

Can I turn JSON Lines into JSON?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as JSON, and the records are saved as one list.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
