About Keynote

Apple made Keynote in 2003 for Steve Jobs's own keynotes. Since 2013 a Keynote deck is kept in Apple's own binary IWA files, next to its pictures and movies and a picture of every slide. Apple has never published the format.

Only Apple's apps and iCloud open it, so a Keynote deck sent to someone on Windows or Android usually ends in a request to export it as PowerPoint or PDF.

Filepeek reads the deck itself, with the open source cupertino-files, and draws each slide with its theme, fonts, pictures, shapes, tables and charts. See them as Slides, as a Grid, with their Notes or as an Outline, and Present them full screen with their transitions and builds.

Questions

How do I open a Keynote file on Windows?

Drop it on this page or choose Peek a Keynote. It opens at its first slide in your browser, with no Mac and no iCloud account.

Can I present it?

Yes. Choose Present for a full screen show with the deck's transitions and builds. The arrow keys, a click or a tap move it on, and Escape ends it.

Can I turn it into a PDF?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as PDF, and every slide goes on a page of its own. Save as PNG or JPEG saves slides as pictures.

Does it open older Keynote files?

A file from Keynote '09 opens as the preview it keeps of itself, and newer ones are read in full.

My KEY file is a private key. Does it open?

Yes. A .key that holds a key in PEM opens as one, with only its kind and size shown, never the key itself. Filepeek tells them apart by their first bytes.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The deck opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
