About Pages

Apple's Pages came with iWork in 2005. Since 2013 a Pages document is kept in Apple's own IWA files, binary records squeezed with Snappy, next to its pictures and a picture of its first page. Apple has never published the format.

Only Apple's apps and iCloud open it, so a Pages file sent to someone on Windows or Android usually ends in a request to export it as Word or PDF. Files from Pages '09 keep a preview of themselves inside.

Filepeek reads the Pages document itself, with the open source cupertino-files, and lays it out as pages: text with its styles, pictures, shapes, tables, headers and footers, where Pages placed them. A Pages '09 file opens as the preview it keeps.

Questions

How do I open a Pages file on Windows?

Drop it on this page or choose Peek a Pages. It opens at once as pages in your browser, with no Mac and no iCloud account.

Why does it look a little different from Pages?

Pages lays text out with Apple's fonts. When your device lacks one, a free font stands in, so a line can break a word sooner or later.

Does it open older Pages files?

Yes. A file from Pages '09 opens as the preview it keeps of itself, and newer ones are read in full.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The document opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
