About KSPLAT

Mark Kellogg made GaussianSplats3D in 2023, a viewer of Gaussian splats for three.js, and .ksplat as its own format, made from a PLY or a .splat so web pages load it quickly.

A .ksplat is binary: a header, then the splats in sections, their positions, sizes, turns, colors and spherical harmonics packed at full or half precision, by how much it was compressed.

Filepeek reads it in your browser and draws it with Spark, an open renderer of splats, turned the right way up and fitted to the middle of the capture. Turn it, zoom and move through it, put a dark, light or no background behind it, and save the view as PNG.

Questions

How do I open a .ksplat file?

Drop it on this page or choose Peek a KSPLAT. The capture opens at once in 3D, with nothing to install.

Why is it upside down?

Most captures are saved the way the cameras that made them see, with up pointing down, so Filepeek turns them over. When one comes out the wrong way, choose Turn it over.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The capture opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
