About PCX
ZSoft made PCX for PC Paintbrush in 1985, and for a decade it was the PC's picture format: DOS games kept their screens in it, Quake II its skins, and scanners and fax apps saved to it.
A PCX is a 128 byte header, then lines of pixels packed with run lengths: one plane of 1 to 8 bits with a palette of 16 or 256 colors, or a plane each for red, green and blue. A DCX gathers the pages of a fax, each a PCX.
No browser shows PCX. Filepeek decodes it itself in its own palette, or EGA's when it has none, a DCX's pages as pages, and Export saves the page on show as PNG or JPEG.
