View PDN files in your browser
Paint.NET's own format, with every layer kept. Paint.NET runs only on Windows, and Filepeek opens its files anywhere. Nothing leaves your device.
Or drop it anywhere on this page
What you'll see
Your file opens as its app saved it, fitted to your window, with its layers beside it.
- Every layer and group • Hide one or show it alone
- Drag to pan • Pinch or scroll to zoom
- A checkerboard, white or black behind it
- Export • Save the picture, a layer or every layer
About PDN
Paint.NET began in 2004 as a student project at Washington State University, meant as a better Paint, and grew into a free image editor for Windows. PDN is how it saves layered images.
A PDN file holds a description of the image in .NET's own binary form, then each layer's pixels, compressed in chunks, with its name, opacity, blend mode and visibility.
Filepeek reads PDN files itself and mixes the layers with Paint.NET's own blend modes, so the image matches Paint.NET's. Hide a layer or show it alone, and save the image, a layer or every layer as PNG.
