About PKPASS

Apple made Wallet passes for Passbook in iOS 6 in 2012. Airlines, venues, shops and gyms send them as .pkpass files, by email and from their sites, for Wallet to keep.

A .pkpass is a ZIP: pass.json with its style, colors, fields and barcode, the pictures for its logo, strip and thumbnail, its translations in a folder for each language, a manifest with the SHA-1 of every file, and a signature over the manifest by the Pass Type ID certificate Apple issued its maker.

Filepeek draws the front in the pass's own colors and pictures, in the language nearest yours, with its barcode, QR, PDF417, Aztec or Code 128, and lists the fields of its back. It checks every file against the manifest and the signature against Apple's root, and lists the files it holds to open or save.

Questions

How do I open a .pkpass file?

Drop it on this page or choose Peek a PKPASS. The pass shows as Wallet draws it, barcode and all, on any computer or phone.

Is the pass genuine?

Filepeek checks that every file matches the pass's manifest and that its signature holds and leads to Apple's root, as Wallet does before it adds a pass. Each check is listed with how it went.

Can I see the back of the pass?

Yes. The fields Wallet shows when a pass is turned over, like terms and contact details, are listed under the front.

Is my pass uploaded?

No. The pass opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
