About THD

Dolby made TrueHD in 2005 for HD DVD and Blu-ray, building on Meridian Lossless Packing, the MLP of DVD-Audio. Rips save the track on its own as .thd, .truehd or .mlp.

TrueHD keeps up to 8 channels at 24 bit and 96 kHz without losing anything. Dolby Atmos on Blu-ray rides inside it as extra data over a 7.1 mix.

No browser plays TrueHD by itself. Filepeek decodes it with FFmpeg inside your browser and plays its channels mixed for your speakers, and Export saves an MP3 or a WAV.

Questions

How do I play a .thd file?

Drop it on this page or press Peek a THD. It plays right in your browser, mixed for your speakers.

Does Atmos play?

The 7.1 mix under Atmos plays. The positions of its sound objects need a Dolby receiver.

What is an MLP file?

Meridian Lossless Packing, the lossless sound of DVD-Audio that TrueHD grew from. It plays here the same way.

Is my recording uploaded?

No. The recording opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
