About VC1

VC-1 is Windows Media Video 9 standardized by SMPTE in 2006, and it was one of the codecs of HD DVD and Blu-ray. Rips and encoders save the picture alone as a .vc1 file.

A .vc1 file is the bare stream, with no sound and no container: a sequence header, then each frame.

No browser plays VC-1. Filepeek decodes it with FFmpeg inside your browser, and Export saves an MP4 that plays on anything.

Questions

How do I play a .vc1 file?

Drop it on this page or press Peek a VC1. It plays right in your browser.

Why is there no sound?

A .vc1 file holds only the picture. Rips keep the sound in a file of its own, like a THD or AC3, which plays here too.

Can I turn it into an MP4?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as MP4.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
