About H264

H.264, or AVC, became the world's video codec after 2003. Most videos hold it inside an MP4 or MKV, but CCTV recorders, IP cameras, encoders and test tools often save the bare stream as .h264 or .264.

A raw stream is the coded frames one after another, with no container: no sound, no length, no frame rate, only the picture.

Filepeek reads the stream with FFmpeg and lets your browser decode it, which every browser does. Export saves an MP4 that plays on anything.

Questions

How do I play a .264 file?

Drop it on this page or press Peek an H264. It plays right in your browser.

Why does it say no sound?

A raw stream holds only the picture. Recorders keep sound apart, if at all.

Can I make it an MP4?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as MP4.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
