About DAV

Dahua, one of the biggest makers of security cameras, saves recordings as .dav files, and so do the many brands that sell its recorders under their own names. Footage handed to police, insurers and neighbors often comes as DAV.

A DAV holds H.264 or H.265 video, often with G.711 or AAC sound, in frames of Dahua's own, with the time each was recorded.

Filepeek reads Dahua's frames with FFmpeg and lets your browser decode the picture, so H.264 plays everywhere and H.265 where your browser and device decode it. Export saves an MP4 anyone can play.

Questions

How do I play a DAV file without Dahua's player?

Drop it on this page or press Peek a DAV. It plays right in your browser, with nothing to install.

Can I turn CCTV footage into an MP4?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as MP4, which plays on any phone or computer and can be cut to just the part you need.

Why does the picture not show?

Recordings in H.265 need a browser and device that decode it. Safari, and Chrome and Edge on most computers, do.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
