About XPS

An XPS is a ZIP of pages written in XML: each page's text in its own fonts, its drawings and its pictures, placed exactly, like a PDF's. Microsoft made it in 2006 with Windows Vista as its own answer to PDF, and Windows has printed to it ever since through Microsoft XPS Document Writer.

Anything printed to Microsoft XPS Document Writer ends up as an XPS, such as receipts, statements, tickets and forms. Windows 10 stopped installing XPS Viewer in 2018, and Macs, iPhones, Android phones and browsers can't open XPS files at all.

Filepeek draws every page in your browser into a PDF, with its own fonts, pictures and gradients, and shows it with zoom, page thumbnails and search. Links inside the document go to their page, a web link asks before it opens, and Export saves it as a PDF, or its pages as PNG or JPEG.

Browsers download XPS files, and Windows 10 and 11 only open them once XPS Viewer is added back. Filepeek opens them in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, with nothing to install.

Questions

How do I open an XPS file?

Drop it on this page or choose Peek an XPS. Its pages open at once, fitted to your window, with thumbnails beside them.

Can I turn an XPS into a PDF?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as PDF. Each page is drawn into the PDF in your browser, its text kept as text, so it can still be searched and copied.

Where did XPS Viewer go?

Windows 10 stopped installing it in 2018, and it's an optional feature since. Filepeek opens XPS files without it, on any device.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The document opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
