About APE

Matthew T. Ashland released Monkey's Audio in 2000. It became a favorite for keeping CDs, often a whole album in one .ape file with a CUE sheet that lists its tracks.

Like FLAC, it keeps every bit of the sound, but it squeezes a little harder, which makes files a few percent smaller and slower to decode. APE tags carry the title, artist and album.

No browser plays APE by itself. Filepeek decodes it with FFmpeg inside your browser, and Export saves an MP3, or a WAV for apps that don't take APE.

Questions

How do I play an APE file?

Drop it on this page or press Peek an APE. It plays right in your browser, with no player or plugin to install.

Can I convert APE to MP3?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as MP3. Best, at 320 kbps, keeps the most quality, and its tags go along.

How do I save one song from a whole album?

Filepeek plays the APE as one long recording. Choose Export and drag the handles on the waveform strip to where the song starts and ends, as the CUE sheet next to it lists.

Is my music uploaded?

No. The APE is decoded inside your browser and never leaves your device.
