About TAK
Thomas Becker released TAK, Tom's lossless Audio Kompressor, in 2007. It set out to compress as well as Monkey's Audio while decoding as fast as FLAC.
Like FLAC and APE, it keeps every bit of the sound, up to 24-bit, and APE tags carry the title, artist and album. Its encoder runs on Windows only.
No browser plays TAK by itself. Filepeek decodes it with FFmpeg inside your browser, and Export saves an MP3 or WAV that plays anywhere.

Questions
How do I play a TAK file?
Drop it on this page or press Peek a TAK. It plays right in your browser, on a Mac, a phone or any computer, with nothing to install.
Is TAK better than FLAC?
It usually makes slightly smaller files, but far fewer players and devices know it. When one won't take it, Export saves an MP3 or WAV that plays anywhere.
Can I save just one song?
Yes. Choose Export and drag the handles on the waveform strip to where the song starts and ends, then save it as MP3 or WAV.
Is my music uploaded?
No. The TAK is decoded inside your browser and never leaves your device.
