About CAB
Microsoft made Cabinet files to ship software, and the setup disks of Windows 95 were full of them. Windows drivers, updates and installers still keep their files in CABs.
A CAB compresses its files together, with MSZIP, LZX or Quantum, and large sets span several cabinets. Driver CABs hold the .inf, .sys and .cat files Windows needs to install a device.
No browser opens a CAB by itself. Filepeek reads it with 7-Zip compiled to WebAssembly on any computer, Macs and Chromebooks included, lists its files like a folder and opens the one you pick.
