About RAR
Eugene Roshal released RAR in 1993, and its name stands for Roshal Archive. WinRAR made it common on Windows. RAR 5, which came with WinRAR 5.0 in 2013, moved to AES-256 encryption.
A RAR can be solid, with its files compressed together as one stream, which makes it smaller. It can carry a recovery record to repair damage, be split into volumes like .part1.rar and .part2.rar, and hide its file names until the password is in.
Making a RAR takes WinRAR, and no browser opens one. Filepeek reads RAR 1.5 to RAR 5 with 7-Zip compiled to WebAssembly, lists the files like a folder and unpacks only the one you pick. Save as ZIP turns the whole RAR into a ZIP that any phone or computer opens.

Questions
How do I open a RAR file without WinRAR?
Drop it on this page or choose Peek a RAR. Its files are listed like a folder, and the one you pick opens right away, with nothing to install.
How do I open a RAR split into parts?
Pick or drop all the parts together: .part1.rar, .part2.rar and so on, or the older .rar with .r00, .r01 and the rest. Filepeek opens them as one archive.
Can it open a RAR with a password?
Yes. Type it when Filepeek asks, even for a RAR that hides its file names. RAR 3 and 4 use AES-128 and RAR 5 uses AES-256. The password is only kept in memory, never stored.
Can I turn a RAR into a ZIP?
Yes. Choose Export, then Save as ZIP, which phones and computers open without an app. For a locked RAR, the ZIP can have no password or keep it as AES-256, which Windows and macOS only open with an app such as 7-Zip, WinRAR, Keka or The Unarchiver.
Is my RAR uploaded?
No. The RAR is read inside your browser and never leaves your device, and nothing in it runs.
