Open DMG files in your browser

The way Mac apps come: a whole disk in one file, compressed. Open one right here, on any computer, see the app inside and open the files you need. Nothing leaves your device.

Or drop it anywhere on this page

What you'll see

Your disk opens like a folder, each volume's files listed on the left, with a map of its partitions and what the disk holds beside them.

About DMG

Apple's disk image came with Mac OS X and is still how most Mac apps are shared outside the App Store. A DMG holds a whole disk, partition map and all, cut into blocks that are each compressed on their own, with zlib, bzip2, LZFSE or LZMA, so a Mac can read any part without unpacking the rest.

Inside is a Mac file system, APFS or HFS+, or sometimes an ISO, and usually one app beside a shortcut to Applications. A DMG can carry a license agreement in many languages, which the Mac shows before it opens, and checksums of its blocks to catch a damaged download.

Filepeek reads it with 7-Zip compiled to WebAssembly, so a DMG opens on Windows, Linux, a Chromebook or a Mac. The disc's card shows the app inside, read from its own files: its name and version, the oldest macOS it needs, whether it runs on Apple silicon, Intel or both, and who it says signed it. Its license opens under License, and every file opens on its own.

No browser opens a DMG: they download it, and only a Mac opens it after that. Filepeek opens it as a folder in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on any computer.

Questions

How do I open a DMG on Windows?

Drop it on this page or choose Peek a DMG. Its files are listed like a folder, the app inside is named on its card, and any file opens right away, with nothing to install.

Can I run the Mac app on Windows?

No. A Mac app only runs on a Mac. Filepeek shows what's inside it, its version and which Macs it runs on, and lets you open or save its files.

Can I read a DMG's license?

Yes. When a DMG carries one, choose License to read it, in each of its languages. Nothing installs, so there is nothing to agree to.

Can I save the files from a DMG?

Yes. Open any file to see it, or choose Export to save them all as a ZIP, or, in Chrome and Edge on a computer, Extract all into a folder.

Is my DMG uploaded?

No. It opens inside your browser and never leaves your device, however big it is.
