About DWG
AutoCAD came out in 1982, and DWG has been its format from the start. Autodesk changes it with the releases that need it, so a file says which it was saved in: R14, 2000, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2013, or 2018, which AutoCAD still saves.
A DWG holds the model, the drawing at full size in real units, and its sheets, each a page of paper with windows onto the model at a scale such as 1:100. Layers sort what's drawn, blocks repeat parts, and text, dimensions, hatches and tables label it all.
Filepeek reads the file in your browser and draws the model and each sheet sharp at any zoom, the model dark as AutoCAD shows it or white as it prints. Hide or show layers, measure between points that snap to the drawing, search the text, and save sheets as PDF, the view as PNG, the drawing as SVG or the whole file as DXF.

Questions
How do I open a DWG file without AutoCAD?
Drop it on this page or choose Peek a DWG. It opens at once on its model, or its first sheet when the model is empty, with nothing to install.
Can I measure a distance?
Yes. Choose Measure and click two points. Each snaps to the nearest end, corner or center, and the distance shows in the drawing's units, through a sheet's windows at their scale.
Can I hide layers?
Yes. Choose Layers to see every layer with its color, and click an eye to hide or show one, or show one alone. Layers off or frozen in the file start hidden, as in AutoCAD.
Can I turn a DWG into a PDF or a DXF?
Yes. Choose Export to save this sheet or every sheet as PDF, the view as PNG, the drawing as SVG with a group for each layer, or the whole file as a DXF for apps that don't read DWG.
Which DWG files open?
Every DWG from AutoCAD R13, from 1994, to the 2018 format AutoCAD still saves. Files from R12 and older show a note. Drawings and pictures a DWG links to but doesn't hold are named in Show details.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The drawing opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
