What you'll see

Your part opens in 3D with its edges, lit and framed, with its assembly beside it and what you pick on the other side.

About IGES

IGES came out in 1980, made by the US National Bureau of Standards with the Air Force and industry, as the first neutral way to send drawings and shapes between CAD systems. STEP took its place in most places, but old archives, molds, ships and machines are still sent as IGES.

An IGES file is text in lines of 80 columns, as on punched cards: a start section, a global one with the units, then entities such as lines, arcs, NURBS surfaces, trimmed surfaces and solids, each in two parts.

Filepeek reads the file in your browser with OpenCascade, the open CAD kernel, and draws its surfaces and solids with their edges, in the unit the file names. Inspect gives each part's size, volume and area, and what the face you click is, Measure snaps to the middle of holes, Section cuts through it, and Export saves it as STL, OBJ or GLB, or the view as PNG.

Questions

How do I open an IGES file without CAD software?

Drop it on this page or choose Peek an IGES. Its surfaces are meshed in your browser and the model opens in 3D, with nothing to install.

What's the difference between IGES and STEP?

Both send exact shapes between CAD apps. IGES, from 1980, is older and mostly surfaces, while STEP keeps solids, assemblies and colors better, so most apps send STEP now. Filepeek opens both.

Can I turn an IGES into an STL?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as STL, for 3D printing, or OBJ and GLB for 3D apps.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The model opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
