About KTX2

The Khronos Group, which makes OpenGL, Vulkan and glTF, released KTX 2.0 in 2020 as the file for textures that go straight to a graphics card. glTF models carry it, and three.js, Babylon.js and game engines load it.

A KTX2 names its pixel format, then holds each mipmap level with its faces and layers, often packed with Zstandard or as Basis Universal, whose ETC1S and UASTC are small to send and quick to turn into what a card reads.

No browser shows KTX2. Filepeek decodes it itself: Basis Universal through its own transcoder, BC1 to BC7 and plain pixels of 8, 16 or 32 bits, each level, face and layer a page, and Export saves the page on show as PNG or JPEG.

Questions

How do I open a KTX2 file?

Drop it on this page or press Peek a KTX2. It opens at full size, with its mipmaps, faces and layers as pages.

How do I convert KTX2 to PNG?

Open it, go to the page you want, then choose Export and Save as PNG.

Does it open Basis Universal textures?

Yes. ETC1S and UASTC textures are turned into pixels by Basis Universal's own transcoder, in your browser.

Is my texture uploaded?

No. It opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
