About MCSTRUCTURE

Minecraft's Bedrock Edition saves a structure as an .mcstructure with a structure block's Export button, in Minecraft for Windows only. Add-on makers put them in a behavior pack's structures folder, where a structure block or the /structure command loads them by name.

An .mcstructure is NBT, little-endian and not gzipped, as Bedrock writes it: the size of the box, a palette of block states and two layers of blocks as numbers into it, the second for the water in a waterlogged block. Chests and signs keep their contents beside them, with the entities.

Filepeek reads it in your browser and builds it in 3D, a block to a meter, in colors of our own: stairs, slabs, fences, doors and plants in their shapes, glass you see through and torches that glow. Every kind is listed beside it with how many there are, Inspect shows their states, and the build saves as PNG, GLB, STL or OBJ.

Questions

How do I export a structure in Bedrock?

With cheats on, /give @s structure_block gives you a structure block. Set it to Save, size the box around the build and choose Export, which saves the .mcstructure where you pick. Export is only in Minecraft for Windows.

How do I load one in a world?

Put it in the structures folder of a behavior pack and turn the pack on for the world. Then /structure load mystructure:house ~ ~ ~ places house.mcstructure where you stand, and a structure block in Load mode takes the same name.

Can I use it in Java Edition?

Not as it is: Java's structure blocks read .nbt files, with Java's names for some blocks. Amulet Editor opens an .mcstructure and pastes it into a Java world, swapping the blocks for Java's.

How many blocks of each kind does it take?

Every kind of block is listed beside the build with how many there are, the most first. Pick one to see its states, like which way its stairs face.

Why don't the blocks look like the game's?

The game's textures are Mojang's, so Filepeek paints each kind of block in a color of its own, close to the game's, in its shape: stairs, slabs, fences, doors and plants as they stand, glass you see through and torches that glow.
