About SCHEM

SpongePowered set down the Sponge Schematic format in 2016 to take over from MCEdit's .schematic, and WorldEdit has saved builds as .schem since WorldEdit 7, for Minecraft 1.13. Builders share them on Planet Minecraft and in Discord servers, and servers paste them with WorldEdit and FastAsyncWorldEdit.

A .schem is gzipped NBT, Minecraft's own tags: the size of the box, a palette of block states like minecraft:oak_stairs[facing=east], and every block as a number into that palette. Chests, signs and other block entities keep their contents beside them, and since version 2 the entities and biomes come too.

Filepeek reads it in your browser and builds it in 3D, a block to a meter, in colors of our own for each kind of block: stairs, slabs, fences, doors and plants in their shapes, glass you see through and torches that glow. Every kind is listed beside it with how many there are, Inspect shows their states, and the build saves as PNG, GLB, STL or OBJ.

Questions

How do I open a .schem without Minecraft?

Drop it on this page or choose Peek a SCHEM. It opens in 3D with every kind of block listed and counted, and nothing to install.

How do I paste a schematic with WorldEdit?

Put the .schem in WorldEdit's schematics folder, plugins/WorldEdit/schematics on a server or config/worldedit/schematics with the mod. Then //schem load and its name loads it, and //paste places it where you stand. //schem list shows the files WorldEdit finds.

Why are blocks missing after I paste it?

A schematic names each block as the Minecraft it was saved in names it. On an older server, blocks that version doesn't have come out as air, so paste it on the same version or a newer one. Show details gives the file's data version.

How many blocks of each kind does it take?

Every kind of block is listed beside the build with how many there are, the most first. Pick one to see its states, like which way its stairs face.

Why don't the blocks look like the game's?

The game's textures are Mojang's, so Filepeek paints each kind of block in a color of its own, close to the game's, in its shape: stairs, slabs, fences, doors and plants as they stand, glass you see through and torches that glow.
