About SCHEMATIC
MCEdit, the first world editor for Minecraft, saved a selection as a .schematic, and WorldEdit, Schematica and the tools that came after read and wrote it. Years of builds on Planet Minecraft and old forum threads were shared this way.
A .schematic is gzipped NBT: the width, height and length of the box, then a byte for each block's ID and another for its data, like 35 and 14 for red wool. Minecraft 1.13 gave every block a name in place of its number, so tools since then save .schem.
Filepeek reads it in your browser, names each ID and its data as Minecraft 1.12 did, and builds it in 3D, a block to a meter, in colors of our own: stairs, slabs, fences, doors and plants in their shapes, glass you see through and torches that glow. Every kind is listed beside it with how many there are, and the build saves as PNG, GLB, STL or OBJ.

Questions
How do I open a .schematic without MCEdit?
Drop it on this page or choose Peek a SCHEMATIC. It opens in 3D, each old block ID named, with nothing to install. MCEdit stopped at Minecraft 1.12, and Amulet Editor took its place.
Can I use it in a newer Minecraft?
Yes. WorldEdit 7 reads .schematic files and turns their old IDs into the blocks of newer versions, so //schem load and //paste work on a newer server, and saving it again with //schem save gives a .schem. Amulet Editor imports them too.
Why are some blocks numbered or wrong?
Mods gave their blocks IDs of their own, which mean nothing, or another block, without the mod. A file from a modded game shows those as numbered blocks, like Block 2012.
How many blocks of each kind does it take?
Every kind of block is listed beside the build with how many there are, the most first. Pick one to see its states, like which way its stairs face.
Why don't the blocks look like the game's?
The game's textures are Mojang's, so Filepeek paints each kind of block in a color of its own, close to the game's, in its shape: stairs, slabs, fences, doors and plants as they stand, glass you see through and torches that glow.
