About MOBI
A MOBI is a Palm database: the book's HTML text in compressed records, then its pictures and its table of contents. Mobipocket, a French company, made it in 2000 from the Open eBook standard, and Amazon bought Mobipocket in 2005 to build the Kindle on it.
Kindles, Calibre and Project Gutenberg used MOBI for years, and many MOBI files made since 2012 hold a second copy of the book in Kindle Format 8. Amazon's Send to Kindle stopped taking MOBI in 2022, and browsers, Apple Books and Google Play Books don't open it.
Filepeek lays the book out on pages the size of a paperback, with its pictures and its contents beside them to jump to any chapter. A MOBI with a Kindle Format 8 copy inside opens that copy, with its own styles and fonts, and a book locked with Amazon's DRM says so.

Questions
How do I open a MOBI file?
Drop it on this page or choose Peek a MOBI. It opens at once on book-sized pages, with its contents beside them.
Can it open Kindle books with DRM?
No. A book bought from Amazon is locked to Kindle's apps and devices, and Filepeek says so. MOBI files without DRM, like those Calibre makes, open here.
Does it open PRC files?
Yes. A Mobipocket book named .prc opens the same way, and so does a Palm document of plain text.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The book opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
