About OBJ
Wavefront made OBJ for its Advanced Visualizer, an animation app of the late 1980s, and kept it simple enough for any app to read and write. Every 3D app still does, so OBJ is how models move between apps and stores.
An OBJ is plain text: a line for each corner, texture coordinate and face, split into objects and groups. Its materials are in an MTL file beside it, which names their colors, shininess and the pictures painted on, so a model comes as an OBJ, an MTL and its textures.
Filepeek reads them together in your browser: drop or pick the OBJ with its MTL and textures, or the folder or ZIP they're in, and the model opens in its colors. An OBJ whose MTL isn't with it opens in clay, with a note. Every object is listed to hide or see alone, Inspect shows its size and materials, and Export saves the model as GLB, USDZ or STL, or the view as PNG.

Questions
How do I open an OBJ file without a 3D app?
Drop it on this page or choose Peek an OBJ. Pick its MTL and textures with it, or drop their folder, and it opens in 3D in its colors, with nothing to install.
Why is my model gray?
Its colors and pictures are in the MTL file and the textures beside it. Open them together with the OBJ, as a folder, a ZIP or several files at once, and it opens in its colors.
Can I hide parts of it?
Yes. Every object and group is listed beside the model. Click an eye to hide one, or See alone to show only it.
Can I turn an OBJ into a GLB or a USDZ?
Yes. Choose Export to save it as GLB, with its materials and textures in one file, as USDZ for iPhones and iPads, or as STL for 3D printing.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The model and its textures open inside your browser and never leave your device.
