About PUB
Microsoft Publisher has saved its publications as PUB since 1991: flyers, newsletters, brochures, invitations, menus and certificates, laid out page by page in text boxes, pictures and shapes. A PUB is a Compound File, like an old Word DOC, with the text, the layout and the pictures in Publisher's own records.
Publisher only ever ran on Windows, and in 2024 Microsoft announced that it would retire Publisher in October 2026, so a PUB sent to a Mac, a phone or a newer PC often has nothing to open it. LibreOffice opens many through libmspub, an open source reader.
Filepeek reads the publication with libmspub, compiled to WebAssembly, and draws each page with its text, pictures, shapes and tables, sharp at any zoom, its pages in a rail beside them. Search finds any word, and Export saves the pages as a PDF or as pictures.

Questions
How do I open a PUB file without Publisher?
Drop it on this page or choose Peek a PUB. It opens at its first page, with every page in a rail beside it.
Can I open a PUB file on a Mac?
Yes. Publisher never ran on Macs, but Filepeek opens PUB files in Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox, on a Mac, an iPhone, an iPad or an Android phone.
Why does my publication look a little different?
Filepeek reads PUB files with libmspub, the open source reader LibreOffice uses. Some of Publisher's effects aren't drawn, and text is set in the fonts your device has.
Can I save it as a PDF?
Yes. Choose Export, then Save as PDF, and every page goes on a page of its own. Save as PNG or JPEG saves pages as pictures.
My PUB file is an SSH public key. Does it open?
Yes. An SSH .pub opens as a public key with its kind, comment and fingerprint. Filepeek tells it from a Publisher file by its first bytes.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The publication opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
