About SAVE

Ren'Py, the engine of thousands of visual novels, saves each slot as a .save file in the game's saves folder, and The Sims 4 saves each game as a .save in its Saves folder.

A Ren'Py save is a ZIP: screenshot.png is the picture its save screen shows, extra_info the save's name, json the time, the play time, the game's name and version, and log the game's state as a Python pickle. A Sims 4 save is a DBPF package, a list of resources by type, group and instance, packed with zlib or RefPack.

Filepeek shows a Ren'Py save's screenshot, its name, when it was saved, how long it was played, the game and its version, and never loads its pickle, which runs code as it loads. A Sims 4 save lists its resources like a folder, by kind.

Questions

How do I see what's in a Ren'Py save?

Drop it on this page or choose Peek a SAVE. Its page shows the screenshot, the save's name, when it was saved, how long it was played and the game's version.

Why isn't the game's state shown?

Ren'Py keeps it as a Python pickle, which runs code as it loads, so Filepeek never loads it. What's around it is plain JSON, and that shows.

Does it open The Sims 4 saves?

Yes. A Sims 4 save is a DBPF package, and its resources are listed like a folder, by kind.

Is my save uploaded?

No. It opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
