About SCH
CadSoft released EAGLE in 1988, and its free version made it the circuit board app of makers and open hardware: Arduino, SparkFun and Adafruit shared their designs as EAGLE files. Autodesk bought it in 2016 and retired it in June 2026 in favor of Fusion, which opens its files.
Since EAGLE 6 a schematic is XML: the symbols of its libraries, each part with its name and value, the nets that wire their pins together with their labels, and the frame around each sheet. The board laid out from it lives beside it, in a .brd of the same name.
Filepeek reads it in your browser and draws each sheet on white in EAGLE's colors, its frame numbered along the edges. Search finds a part by its name or its value on every sheet, each layer can be hidden or shown alone, Measure gives distances, and Export saves the sheet as PNG or SVG.

Questions
How do I open a .sch file without EAGLE?
Drop it on this page or press Peek an SCH. Every sheet opens in EAGLE's colors, with nothing to install. KiCad and Fusion can import it to edit.
Why won't my old EAGLE schematic open?
Schematics from EAGLE 5 and before are binary, in a format only EAGLE reads. Opening one in EAGLE 6 or later and saving it again gives the XML that opens here.
Why does my .sch open as text?
KiCad saved its schematics as .sch text until KiCad 6, and those open here as text. Only EAGLE's open as a schematic.
How do I find a part on a big schematic?
Press Search and type its name, like R12, or its value, like 10k. Search looks through every sheet and steps from match to match.
Can I see the board too?
Yes. Open the .brd of the same name and the board shows as it's made, from the top and from below.
