About VRO

DVD recorders and DVD camcorders from Panasonic, Sony, Hitachi, Toshiba and others could write a disc in VR mode, which lets you edit and delete recordings on the disc. Such a disc has a DVD_RTAV folder holding one VR_MOVIE.VRO with every recording, and a VR_MANGR.IFO listing them.

A VRO is an MPEG program stream like a DVD's VOB, with MPEG-2 video and Dolby Digital, MPEG or PCM sound. Unlike DVD-Video, it plays only in players that read VR mode, and many don't.

Chrome, Edge and Firefox can't play VRO. Filepeek decodes it with FFmpeg inside your browser, every recording one after another, and Export saves an MP4 that plays everywhere.

Questions

How do I play a VRO file?

Copy VR_MOVIE.VRO from the DVD_RTAV folder of the disc, then drop it on this page or press Peek a VRO. It plays right in your browser.

Why won't my recorded DVD play in a DVD player?

A disc recorded in VR mode isn't DVD-Video, so only players that read VR mode play it. Its VR_MOVIE.VRO plays here.

Why are all my recordings in one file?

VR mode keeps every recording on the disc in one VR_MOVIE.VRO, and VR_MANGR.IFO says where each starts. Here it plays as one video, recording after recording.

Why won't a recording from TV play?

Recordings of copy-once broadcasts are encrypted with CPRM, which only recorders and licensed players unlock. Filepeek doesn't break that protection.

Can I turn it into an MP4?

Yes. Choose Export, then Save as MP4, which plays on phones, TVs and in any app.
