About VSD
Visio has saved its diagrams as VSD since its first version in 1992, and VSD stayed its default until Visio 2013 brought VSDX. A VSD is a Compound File, like an old Word DOC, holding Visio's own records: each page's shapes, the masters they come from and the styles they use. VSS is the same file as a stencil, a set of shapes to drag from, and VDX the drawing in XML, which Visio 2003 to 2010 could save.
Twenty years of flowcharts, org charts, network diagrams, floor plans and wiring diagrams are VSD files. Visio is sold apart from Microsoft Office and its desktop app only runs on Windows, so a VSD sent to someone without it usually ends in a request for a PDF. LibreOffice opens many through libvisio, an open source reader.
Filepeek reads the diagram with libvisio, compiled to WebAssembly, and draws each page with its shapes, connectors, arrows, text, fields and pictures, sharp at any zoom, its pages in a rail beside them. A stencil opens with each of its shapes on a page. Search finds any word, and Export saves the pages as a PDF or as pictures.

Questions
How do I open a VSD file without Visio?
Drop it on this page or choose Peek a VSD. It opens at its first page, with every page in a rail beside it.
Does it open stencils and XML drawings?
Yes. A VSS stencil opens with each of its shapes on a page of its own, and a VDX, Visio's XML drawing, opens like a VSD.
Why does my diagram look a little different?
Filepeek reads VSD files with libvisio, the open source reader LibreOffice uses. Some of Visio's effects aren't drawn, and text is set in the fonts your device has.
Can I save it as a PDF?
Yes. Choose Export, then Save as PDF, and every page goes on a page of its own. Save as PNG or JPEG saves pages as pictures.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The diagram opens inside your browser and never leaves your device.
